A team from content strategists Abstract has been commissioned to relaunch Bridge magazine for the University of Sunderland, to help promote the institution’s ambitions for the area to become known as Britain’s software city.
Following the lead of the University’s new Chancellor, Steve Cram, the record breaking Olympian and BBC athletics commentator, Bridge has been designed, edited and developed to play a leading role in informing former and existing students and wider stakeholders from the worlds of business, academia and the public sector just how radically things are improving, not just for Sunderland, but for the North East as a whole.
Over the past 20 years Sunderland has evolved from a town on its knees to a city with a thriving automotive industry and call centre sector. Next on the city’s masterplan is the software industry, Sunderland Software City to be precise – an ambitious plan to rival the M4 corridor as the preferred UK base for software businesses.
The magazine, which is to be published at the end of June 2009, includes an interview with Cram, in which he talks about his passionate ambitions for the university and articles from key regional partners including the chair of software developers the Leighton Group on why the North East beats its southern counterpart for the software crown.
The magazine’s design has been masterminded by Abstract Art Director Joel O’Connor, while the content has been guided by Editorial Director Celia Mather and her team.
